Geneva Prepares to Host Aid for Trade Review on 29–30 October

Trade and development officials are due to gather at WTO headquarters in Geneva on 29–30 October for the 2026 Global Review of Aid for Trade, with partnerships and developing economies’ trading capacity on the agenda.

The review will examine the impact of trade-related development support and the changing needs of developing and least-developed countries. Ministers, international organisation leaders and specialists are expected to take part.

According to the WTO’s event page, close to US$800 billion has been mobilised for trade development over the past two decades. The initiative supports institutions, infrastructure and export sectors, aiming to help countries overcome obstacles to participation in international markets.

Aid for Trade includes grants and concessional lending within official development assistance. Its purpose extends beyond lowering border barriers to strengthening the practical capacity needed to trade.

The October meeting is an opportunity to assess that record and discuss future partnerships. It has not yet taken place; any conclusions or new commitments will need to be assessed after the review.
