Turkish Cypriot leader Tufan Erhürman and Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Christodoulides met at the United Nations Good Offices Mission in Cyprus on 20 October, continuing engagement under UN auspices.
The meeting took place inside the United Nations Protected Area. According to the mission, the leaders were welcomed by the senior UN official in Cyprus, Khassim Diagne, on behalf of the Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy, María Ángela Holguín.
A UN account said discussions covered confidence-building measures, methodology and substance. The meeting followed the Secretary-General’s visit to the island in July.
The leaders welcomed Holguín’s expected arrival on 29 October and looked ahead to bilateral meetings with her and a trilateral meeting scheduled for 9 November.
The statement records continued dialogue and a timetable for further engagement. It does not announce a settlement or a breakthrough on the substantive issues. The next meetings will provide a further indication of how the process is developing.
